The RYA Powerboat Level 2 Direct assessment is our most popular certification, allowing you to drive and hire boats up to 10 metres in length. Suitable for complete beginners, this two-day course takes place at Club de Mar, Palma.

Unlike other schools, we have a fleet of ribs including a fully coded 7m Humber RIB equipped with state-of-the-art electronics, including GPS chart plotter, radar, sonar, and AIS. These features enhance your learning experience, offering more than traditional boats without electronic aids.

What the Powerboat Level 2 course covers:

  • Weather and tide assessments
  • Navigation using charts and GPS
  • Marina berthing, mooring, and close-quarters handling
  • High-speed manoeuvres and crew safety
  • Man overboard recovery techniques
  • Planning and executing trips using electronic and paper charts

  • Day shapes, night lights, and buoyage

With a maximum of three students per course, you’ll get plenty of hands-on practice.

Yes!

Commercial applications for this certification include charter fishing boats, small passenger vessels, thrill ride operators, and harbour patrols.

To work on a commercial vessel under MCA codes of practice, you’ll need to have your Powerboat Level 2 commercially endorsed. This enables you to operate vessels up to 24m in length within Category 6 waters (up to 3 miles offshore in good weather during daylight hours).

The assessment runs over one day from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Certification Validity: Your RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is valid for life and doesn’t require renewal.

Worldwide Recognition: The certificate is recognised internationally, allowing you to drive powerboats up to 10 metres recreationally across the globe.
